What a VA Nexus Letter Evaluation Includes

Veterans pursuing VA disability benefits for PTSD, depression, anxiety, or other mental health conditions may need a psychological evaluation and nexus letter to address service connection. As a VA‑contracted psychologist, Dr. Boulware provides detailed evaluations grounded in VA evidentiary standards, including diagnosis, functional impairment, and medical rationale. This service offers a comprehensive clinical assessment of your diagnosis, functional impairment, and the relationship between your condition and your military service.

A private nexus letter does not guarantee VA approval. The VA reviews private medical opinions alongside C&P examinations, treatment records, and other evidence when deciding a claim.

Each evaluation typically includes a review of relevant records, a comprehensive clinical interview, standardized psychological assessment when clinically indicated, and a written medical opinion addressing diagnosis, functional impairment, and service connection. A Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) may be completed when applicable.

When a VA Nexus Letter Evaluation May Help

Veterans often seek a VA nexus letter evaluation when:

  • You are filing an initial VA disability claim and need mental health documentation related to service connection.

  • Your claim was denied and you need additional medical evidence or a well-reasoned nexus opinion.

  • The VA has requested clarification about your diagnosis, functional impairment, or service connection.

  • You want an independent psychological evaluation addressing PTSD, depression, anxiety, or another mental health condition in relation to your military service.

Evaluations are available for PTSD, depression, anxiety, adjustment-related conditions, and other mental health concerns relevant to VA disability claims. Services are self-pay and are not billed to insurance.
